ZeroDX: Zero Distance Excellence
Celebrating Excellence in Zero Distance Organizations
In the dynamic landscape of modern business, maintaining competitiveness requires adaptability and innovative organizational approaches. At the forefront of this evolution is the concept of the Zero Distance Organization, pioneered by Zhang Ruimin, founder and chairman emeritus of the Haier Group, now the world’s leading provider of better life and digital transformation solutions. Born out of Haier's own RenDanHeYi™ (RDHY) model, Zero Distance refers to the elimination of the distance between employees, operations, and customers, to ensure seamless connectivity and responsiveness in today's fast-paced markets.
Originally championed by Haier, RDHY has been reported on and its practice extolled by some of the leading management thinkers of our time. Bill Fischer, Umberto Lago and Fang Liu in their book Reinventing Giants were the first to report on the management philosophy for a western audience in 2013. Many others have carried out research and examined the working and thinking behind RenDanHeYi. They include Gary Hamel and Michele Zanini, Stuart Crainer, Kaihan Krippendorff, Annika Steiber and the business ecosystem pioneer James F. Moore. From within Haier, Zhang Ruimin has provided a compelling commentary on the evolution of the theory and its practice at Haier and beyond.
As the practice of the elements involved in RDHY spreads, the Business Ecosystem Alliance (BEA) is delighted to be partnering with the Management Lab (MLab) and the Haier Model Institute (HMI), in developing a listing of organizations from throughout the world which demonstrate excellent practice in the field of Zero Distance.
Zero Distance Excellence builds on the success of the Zero Distance Awards which BEA launched in 2021. It celebrates the organizations leading the way in putting the concept to work.
Though the roots of Zero Distance can be traced back to Zhang Ruimin's vision and the RenDanHeYi model, there isn’t a singular method for achieving Zero Distance; instead, the approach should be tailored to the unique needs and context of the enterprise. In this regard, Zero Distance Excellence recognizes and highlights the courage and commitment of enterprises that have embraced transformation to achieve Zero Distance, irrespective of their approaches.
Participation and Assessment
Organized by BEA, MLab, and HMI, Zero Distance Excellence (ZeroDX) celebrates and showcases organizations that have demonstrated exceptional achievements in innovation, autonomy, and customer-centricity. The criteria are based on a multitude of factors that capture the essence of Zero Distance and the principles that underpin its success.
Organizations from diverse sectors and industries are encouraged to participate. This includes public, private and social organizations. Whether your organization is a large multinational corporation or a small startup, if you have embraced transformative practices to remove the boundaries between value-creators in the organizations and the customers, we want to hear from you.
To help, we provide the Zero Distance Organizational Maturity Assessment System with which to review where your organization has minimized its distance to your users and where it can improve to achieve Zero Distance in hopes of achieving value creation for all in your ecosystem.
There are three assessment dimensions, including level of organizational autonomy, user value and value-added sharing driving force.
